DSR 001 - February 1st 2010

Here it is. DSR001. Inkwell – Kneesocks
Danksoul’s first release is coming out ON VINYL worldwide via our distributor WordandSound February 1st 2010. It is an Inkwell record that will showcase some of the duo’s best material to date. Pre sales start January 11th, digital sales will begin February 15th.
There will be release parties in Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary, we will give everyone an update as soon as everything is confirmed and solid.
In preparation for this huuuuge occasion we will be updating many aspects of the site, so bare with us as those get done.

Soundwave 2009 and other tidbits

Hey folks,
Soundwave is almost upon us. It is a mere 4 days away at this point. The excitement is visible in the air now, the wait is nearly over.
For those who don’t know already, we (Danksoul) are doing a Label Showcase on the Daielektik stage this year. ForaFee will open things up with a dj set complete with live effects, that will segway into a inkwell live improvised set. After which all four of us will jam it out with turntables, hardware effects, the inkwell liveset and another laptop. It is gonna be wild, but in the best way possible. This is a DEBUT and you might not hear it again for a while. So don’t miss out!

Hrdvsion & Soundwave 2009

Yo yo yoooo,
The Mutek Edmonton show was a huge success, everything came together nicely and made for a really good time. The mole played a great set as we all expected him to, he really played some totally amazing music. Of course we were all there to support, the danksoul crew (Inkwell and Forafee), Clinker and Wijit, and the Shout Out Out Out Out guys (Nik 7 + Jaycie Jayce). It was really a good vibe, everyone was in good spirits and just happy to play some music to an audience that wanted to hear it. I think mutek would have been proud, and its probably not a bad assumption that this will mean more shows like this will be happening in e-town. And now mutek is coming quicker than ever, with the full lineup posted we are all literally going nuts with anticipation. To those who are making the journey, see you soon.
Now on to new pressing items, Danksoul’s bestest buddy and partner in crime Hrdvsion (Nathan Jonson) will be coming back to canada for a bit and will be playing a show in edmonton (van + vic as well…on other dates) on may 8th of this year.

Annnnnd, Danksoul is doing a label showcase at this years Soundwave festival on Vancouver Island. A legendary west coast haven for good tunes, we are pretty excited for this and can’t wait to show everyone the new material/ideas we’ve been working on. At some point during the showcase there will be two Dj’s and two live artists playing improvisationally together, among other things. In addition there are numerous acts that will keep you shufflin all weekend long.
So get planning, it’s on July 10-12 of this year….

Danksoul plays the Mutek Tour, Edmonton Stop

It’s almost that coveted time of year again folks, the call of mutek has spread far and wide…the time is soon!
In preparation for the 10th anniversary of one of the most influential electronic music festivals in the world, the mutek crew has put together a little tour to peak everyone’s interests. Edmonton will be receiving a stop and will have none other than The Mole of Soul himself, doing what will surely be a spectacular liveset. Accompanying him will be the main legs of the danksoul crew, DJ tag team ForaFee (Bron and Dane Gretzky) and Live Duo Inkwell (cinch and litewait). Supporting are Nik 7 and Jaycie Jayce of Shout out out out out Fame as well as Clinker & DJ Wijit. This will certainly be a dangerous night folks.
Mutek is also hitting several other cities across North America to bring the music goodness to those who will receive it. Below are full Lineups/dates for each city. I would highly recommend to anyone to go to these shows if you are in or near these cities. I also HIGHLY recommend going to mutek this year, we will be there… come say hi.

Inkwell!

Hey folks,
Inkwell recently released an EP with Archipel Musique out of Montreal, entitled “Rain or Shine”. That is out on beatport and whatpeopleplay (among others). We are proud to announce this as we really like the archipel sound and the friendship of Pheek. Of course we want to support our very own inkwell in anyway, fwd.dj have just put them up as the featured artist, there is a full interview and a copy of their liveset from Soundwave this year. Check it out!
As for danksoul news, we are getting closer and closer to our first 12” release. It has been a long road of waiting, but soon! In Vancouver on Oct 25th we have just been booked to do a showcase for Signal Saturdays @ The Lotus Sound Lounge. This is going to be a really great night as we have always wanted to play the lotus. The night will feature Inkwell – ForaFee and Woodhead. Keep that one in mind, we are going to DESTROY that place!

We are planning a compilation to be released in the near future, as well as few parties in vancouver.

soundwave cometh

YO!
We just got back from two killer shows in edmonton and calgary, big thanks to blip and the e-town/calgary folk, you guys are amazing! Everyone at danksoul had a great time and was humbled by the good response, we will be coming back to do it all again in the near future.
BUT for now, lets focus on whats going down soon… and thats SOUNDWAVE!!!!!! JULY 18th – 20st Mussel Beach BC!!!!!!
Danksoul artists will have 4 performances throughout this three day festival, 3LD the Renegade Stage (saturday 4am), ForaFee the Meadow (time TBA), Inkwell Daielektik stage (time TBA) and Inkwell the Meadow (time TBA). We are so excited it hurts, soundwave is one of the best reasons to be on the west coast and love electronic music. Please if you do not know about this festival go to their site and check it out, Soundwave it’s worth your money and your time. Additionally our good friend Longwalkshortdock will be featuring some of our tunes in his chill stage set (be sure to check him out at the daielektik stage too!)
We have a new release lined up and it will be up on all the usual sites in the next couple weeks. Its got some hot shit on there! Our juno link is below :)

Summer is Coming..

Hello,
Just a quick update for you, Danksoul is hard at work on polishing up tracks/artwork for our first few vinyl releases. We don’t have any specific dates as of right now, but I can say that we expect to have our first one out in the summer.
On another note Inkwell, Floorboard and Cinch will be releasing a number of tracks on Montreal based Label Archipel! Owned by none other than minimal legend Pheek . There will be a digital release containing tracks by all three of the groups. Expect to see it sometime in the beginning of summer.
There are a few shows coming up for our artists:
ForaFee @ Intox 5 – May 9th – Edmonton
Inkwell @ The Royal unicorn – April 18th – Vancouver
3LD @ Soundwave Renegade Stage – July 18-20 – Mussel Beach, BC.

LLW coming up

So, The little Alberta tour we did went very well. Thanks to everyone who came and partied down! We love you guys and are coming back realllllll sooon.
Up next for us, We have 3 Legion of Doom, Inkwell and ForAFee in the Lick room at the next Lotus Long Weekend. Which is the good Friday long weekend coming up on March 20th. These shows are always a HUGE amount of fun, and it will be the second time that we have free reign of one of the 3 rooms.

Shows! Site updates! Excitement!

Hey peoples!
So just wanted to give an update on whats going on. We’ve got two great shows coming up in Alberta. Feb 29th at the Velvet Underground in Edmonton and March 1st with Blip @ Soda in Calgary. They are going to be amazing shows hopefully all the heads in these areas can make it down say hi! Take a look at the events page for more details and flyers.
Secondly we just implemented some more delicious site updates. The discography page is functioning (as we are ready to release material regularly now!) Many of the artist pages are now ready for viewing, and the ones that aren’t will be done by the end of this weekend. Our flickr photo section is looking pretty good as well (even though it isn’t quite done yet)!
